How Players Retire
Player's Choice
Players may choose to retire at the age of 37. The older a player gets the more likely they are to retire. A player will never retire while under contract. Once a player is 39 or older, they will only sign one-season contracts or retire. Players automatically retire once they reach 46.
Forced
UFA skaters and goalies that are 28 or older and that have gone unsigned for 33 and 75 days, respectively will be forced to retire.
The Effects of Retirement
Once a player retires, they can no longer be signed to a new contract.
Skaters who play in at least 400 games will have their stats preserved when they retire and can be hired as staff by any team that the player used to play for.
Goalies who play in at least 150 games will have their stats preserved when they retire and can be hired as staff by any team that the player used to play for.
Players who win at least one player award (leagues or Medallion MVP) during their playing career become Hall-of-Famers and have their stats preserved and can be hired as staff by only teams that the player won an award with.
Skaters who have never won a player award and have played under 400 games (for goalies it's 150 games) will be deleted.
